Local 4 has learned new information about the tragic shooting that killed a mother trying to protect her son on Detroit’s east side.
Officials say Wednesday’s (Sept. 4) incident wasn’t the first time gun violence has impacted the family of 42-year-old Tasneen Sherrod.
Officials said Sherrod tried to de-escalate an argument between another teen and her 16-year-old son, who was also shot but is recovering in a Metro Detroit hospital.
Detroit police radio allowed us to hear the urgency of Wednesday night’s tragic events.
We are digging into precisely what happened as sources told us that Sherrod and her 16-year-old son were arguing in the home when allegedly her son took out a handgun and placed it on an adjacent dresser when another teen grabbed the gun.
The 42-year-old went after the teen when she was shot and killed, followed by her son, who was shot.
In 2022, Sherrod lost her 15-year-old son Robert Harris when he was shot and killed in a nearby gas station.
“That was my baby, who was 15 years old, he wasn’t nothing like that,” said Sherrod. “He was sweet, and he was kind.”
Police said they are looking into whether Sherrod took those bullets last night to protect her son after losing a son just two years ago.
The family wants to remain private at this time but has sent a GoFundMe for support.
