Sheriff: 15-year-old girl arrested after making threat against Whiteford schools in group chat

Sheriff’s office to have additional staff at school on Monday

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A 15-year-old girl was arrested after making a threat toward Whiteford schools in a group text chat, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by officials from Whiteford Agricultural Schools after 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, regarding a threat of gun violence.

The sheriff’s office said a 15-year-old girl from Temperance, Michigan, sent a message in a group text chat with other students in the school regarding a threat of gun violence against the school planned for Monday, Sept. 9, 2024.

Deputies contacted the girl and her parents. They located a small caliber bolt-action rifle in the home. The 15-year-old girl was arrested and is being held at the Monroe County Youth Center.

The sheriff’s office will have additional staff during the school day on Monday.
