Man charged in connection to break-in at Ann Arbor home

Police remind citizens the importance of locking doors in their homes

Ann Arbor, MICH. – A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection to a break-in at a home in Ann Arbor.

Last Wednesday (Sept. 4) at 5:45 a.m., police responded to a break-in report in the 300 block of W. Williams Street. Javare Holmes is accused of entering the home through an unlocked door while the residents were asleep. The residents woke up and noticed multiple items were missing.

One of the items, a laptop, was pinging at a home on Packard Street. Further investigation brought police to a gas station where surveillance camera captured Holmes using a stolen credit card. Officers were also able to find a vehicle parked near Packard Street and could see many of the reported stolen items in plain sight.

Police conducted a search warrant of the location on Packard and the parked vehicle. Items from the W. Williams home was recovered as well as items belonging to other potential victims.

The next day (Sept. 5), 29-year-old Javare Holmes was charged with first degree home invasion, receiving and concealing property $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, and two counts of stealing a financial transaction device without consent. Holmes was given a $75,000 cash bond and is in Washtenaw County Jail.

The Ann Arbor Police Department is further emphasizing the importance of door/window locking as well as calling 911 if you see anything suspicious.
