Teen charged in fatal shooting of mother who was protecting her son on Detroit’s east side

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Anthony Deshawn Sneed, 15, of Clinton Township, in the fatal shooting of Tasneen Sherrod, 42, and the non-fatal shooting of her 15-year-old in Detroit.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (Sept. 4) at 8:10 p.m. in the 18100 block of Runyon Street when Sherrod tried to de-escalate an argument between Sneed and her son.

Officials said when they arrived, they located the mother and her son outside of their home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Allegedly, during a physical altercation, Sneed robbed the son of a handgun and shot it multiple times, killing Sherrod and non-fatally wounding the son before fleeing the scene.

Sneed turned himself in at the 6th Precinct of the Detroit Police Department on Sept. 5, 2024.

He was charged with felony murder, juvenile defendant, second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, and four counts of felony firearm.
