Powell Road in Macomb County closed after DTE contractor is killed by live wire

61-year-old man’s family is on scene

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Powell Road in Macomb County is closed after a live power line kills a 61-year-old DTE contractor.

The incident occurred on Thursday (Sept. 12) in the 69000 block of Powell Road, just north of 32 and 33 Mile roads.

DTE Energy confirmed the utility company contracted the man at the time.

“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that a contractor lost an employee today while doing work for DTE. The individual, who was working in Macomb County, came in contact with overhead equipment and was fatally wounded. We send our love and support to his family and loved ones. Our teams are currently on the scene, working with first responders and local officials to assist with the investigation.”

Crews were called to put out the fire, which caused black smoke to fill the air in the area.

Officials say the 61-year-old man has family members on the scene, but they do not want to talk to Local 4 at this time.
