Westland man accused of kidnapping pregnant ex, keeping her in car for 2 days

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 29-year-old man from Westland is facing multiple felonies after he reportedly kidnapped his pregnant ex and held her in her car for more than two days.

Dakota Joseph Varana is accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend Sept. 6 when she came to pick him up from the Upper Peninsula.

According to authorities, Varana allegedly hit the victim, took her car keys and cell phone and held her in her vehicle for two and a half days.

Her mother reported her missing Sunday, Sept. 8, the same day the victim reportedly passed a note to a store clerk saying she was kidnapped. Police located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but Varana allegedly drove off and struck another vehicle before running away on foot.

Varana was charged with unlawful imprisonment, interfering with an electronic communications and domestic violence. He was charged as a habitual offender.

Bond was set at $60,000. Varana’s probable cause hearing will take place Sept. 24.
