LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – A Michigan State Police Trooper was injured, and a woman died after a crash on northbound I-75 Friday morning.
On Sept. 13 at around 8:40 a.m., a Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer was conducting a traffic stop on a semi on I-75 near Dix when he was struck by another vehicle.
Michigan State Police held a press conference at around 11:30 a.m., saying the trooper was seat-belted in the car at the time of the crash and was pinned in the patrol car. He was extricated and transported to a local hospital. Police said he is in critical condition.
Witnesses told police the car struck the median wall before continuing down the freeway, eventually striking the patrol car and pushing it into the back of the semi.
“Things are swinging in the right direction for this officer and his family,” said Michigan State Police Director Colonel James Grady II during the press conference on Friday.
Initially, police reported the woman in the car that caused the crash was injured—Grady later updated, saying she died from her injuries.
The semi-truck driver who was initially pulled over was not injured.
The trooper’s identity is being withheld at this time, but Grady said the trooper has been in the agency for two years.
