Video captures arsonist setting fire to Oak Park clothing store during break-in

Officials say no one was hurt

OAK PARK, Mich. – Security video captured a hooded person wearing a mask breaking into the store and setting the fire.

The Wealthy Store on 9 Mile Road caught on fire early Thursday (Sept. 12) morning.

Security video captured a hooded person wearing a mask break into the store and set the fire.

“He went to the back, and it’s like he didn’t find anything of value, and he was just like flame the place,” said store owner Rashad Hosea.

Hosea founded The Wealthy Brand and eventually opened the clothing shop (The Wealthy Store) in 2018.

Hosea doesn’t know who the person is in the video setting the business on fire.

“I was in shock, disbelief, hurt and then through the course of the day I just got angry,” Hosea said.

Oak Park officials confirmed no one was hurt in the fire and said the matter remains under active investigation.

“Why would you do that to somewhere that so many people care about?” Hosea said. “It’s always the one person that messes it up for everybody.”

Hosea said they plan to rebuild, and the online storefront will remain open in the meantime.
