Man accused of stabbing spree in Kalamazoo hit by police car, arrested

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A 33-year-old man has been arrested on multiple counts of attempted murder after reportedly stabbing multiple people in Kalamazoo.

The incident began late Thursday, Sept. 12, and continued into early Friday morning.

According to authorities, two women were seriously injured after a stranger approached them and stabbed them repeatedly with a knife. The two women both suffered cuts to their head and neck and were hospitalized.

Police said they were able to use video footage to identify the suspect when they were contacted by a 25-year-old woman who reported she was punched in the face by the man.

Police searched the area using drones and K-9 units, but were unable to locate him.

Just before 4 a.m., a 51-year-old man with serious injuries arrived at a hospital after reportedly being stabbed by the same man.

After receiving a tip about the suspect’s location, police located the man and chased him on foot. The foot chase ended when he was reportedly struck by a police vehicle. He was hospitalized and facing multiple charges of assault and attempted murder.

He will be lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail once discharged from the hospital. Police said he acted alone and that there is no threat to the public.

Michigan State Police are investigating the apprehension of the suspect and the police officer has been placed on administrative leave.
