Man charged in 2022 murder of retired Detroit police officer

Suspect accused of shooting at 2 other people

DETROIT – A man has been charged with murder in the 2022 killing of a retired Detroit police officer.

Erik Delano Davis, 30, of Detroit, is facing several charges in the death of retired Detroit police officer Stefon Hodo, 41, and two non-fatal shootings.

Prosecutors said Davis killed Hodo during an argument on June 28, 2022, and moved his body to another location before breaking into Hodo’s home and stealing his vehicle and handgun. He is also accused of using the stolen vehicle and handgun in shootings on June 30, 2022.

At 11:10 a.m. on June 30, 2022, Detroit police officers were sent to a home in the 15300 block of Ferguson Street for reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they spoke to a 39-year-old witness.

At 2:27 p.m., police officers were sent to the same home for reports of another shooting. The second time they arrived, they found a 47-year-old had been shot in the hand.

The investigation led police to Hodo’s home in the 14900 block of Ferguson Street in Detroit. Police filed a missing person report.

On July 14, 2022, Hodo was found dead at a park in Detroit. His death was ruled a homicide caused by multiple sharp force injuries to the head.

Davis was arrested on July 1, 2022.

Davis has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion, discharge of a firearm in or at a building, discharge of a firearm in or at a building causing serious impairment, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm.

Davis is expected to be arranged in 36th District Court after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024,
