DETROIT – Two people were killed over the weekend in a shooting in Detroit’s Eastern Market.
Here’s what we know so far.
Shooting details
The shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at Shed 6 in the Eastern Market neighborhood.
Officers were in the area for traffic control and heard gunshots, so they quickly went to the scene.
Detroit police Chief James White said two men got into a confrontation and put their hands up to fight. One of them pulled out a gun and fired shots.
Who are the victims?
A Detroit man in his 40s was killed in the shooting.
A Detroit man in his 20s was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Local 4 learned Monday afternoon that he died from his injuries.

Who was the shooter?
Police took a man from Oak Park into custody.
It’s unclear if the suspected shooter knew either of the victims, and officials haven’t released details about what prompted the fight.
Guns found
Detroit police said they recovered two guns at the scene.
They didn’t reveal whether both guns belonged to the suspected shooter or if someone else was armed and tried to engage the Oak Park man.
Officials continue to investigate the case.
