DETROIT – A crash on Detroit’s east side late Sunday, Sept. 15, killed two teenagers and hospitalized a third with critical injuries.
Police said the crash involved a speeding Dodge Charger that had three teenagers inside and a BMW with a drunk driver. According to authorities, the speeding Charger was driving northbound on Gratiot Avenue when they struck a BMW that was turning left from the southbound lanes near Harper Avenue. The crash caused the Dodge to leave the roadway, strike two parked cars and hit a party store before coming to a stop.

A teen boy and a teen girl were both killed. Another teen girl was critically injured in the crash. The driver was among those killed in the crash.
Police said the vehicle was so heavily damaged that they were unable to tell if anyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The driver of the BMW was uninjured and was taken into custody on suspicion of OWI.
“It’s a terrible situation,” said Deputy Chief Kari Sloan. “The vehicle was traveling way too fast and the driver of the BMW was intoxicated -- those two things combined are deadly.”
