Disabled driver’s medical emergency prompts dramatic rescue in Mount Clemens

63-year-old man was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies have rescued a disabled 63-year-old driver during traffic in Mount Clemens.

The incident occurred on Thursday (Sept. 12) at 2:18 p.m., going southbound on Gratiot Avenue in Mount Clemens, when a silver GMC Sierra was driving erratically near Church Street.

Officials said they encountered the vehicle on southbound Gratiot Avenue near Remick Drive, where they activated their lights and sirens, but the 63-year-old man failed to stop.

The driver continued southbound at five miles per hour before deputies pulled alongside him, where they saw he was dazed and unable to comprehend the request.

Deputies said the driver eventually rolled down the window and briefly hit his brakes, allowing Deputy Miron, on the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, to exit the window and climb into the SUV, continuing down Gratiot Avenue.

Once Miron was inside the truck, she was able to stop the vehicle and call the driver’s family member to confirm his medical condition.

Clinton Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and began treating the 63-year-old man before he was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for further medical care.
