Grosse Pointe man accused of intentionally crashing into box truck multiple times arraigned

He faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Grosse Pointe man was arraigned for allegedly intentionally crashing into a billboard box truck multiple times.

William Michael-Louis Matouk II is accused of intentionally driving a Chevrolet Express van into a billboard box truck near Mack Avenue and Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods on June 30, 2024. He allegedly backed up and struck the truck two more times before fleeing the scene.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the billboard box truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Matouk was charged with the following:

  • Malicious Destruction of Personal Property— a ten-year felony
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon— a four-year felony
  • Lying to a Peace Officer— a two-year felony
  • Failure to Stop After Collision— a 90-day misdemeanor

“We take this case very seriously. By allegedly using his vehicle as a weapon, the defendant put lives at risk, and it is fortunate that the injuries sustained were not more severe. We are committed to ensuring justice is served,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Matouk was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Woods District Court on a $50,000 personal bond. If released, the prosecutor’s office said he cannot talk to any witnesses, he must turn in his passport and seek permission before leaving Michigan.

A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. His Preliminary Examination is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
