FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The man who barricaded himself in a Farmington Hills home on Sunday and shot at police has been charged with multiple felonies.

The situation unfolded when Farmington Hills police responded to a domestic violence assault at a home in the area of Middlebelt and 12 Mile on Sept. 15 just before 12 p.m.

It’s alleged the suspect, 32-year-old Dejuan Patrick Evans, assaulted a woman and threatened her life in front of her children. The victim’s child called 911.

When officers arrived at the scene, the woman ran out of the house, told police she was assaulted and attempted to intervene with the suspect—who then had a rifle and opened fire.

The officers took cover and requested numerous agencies and the SWAT team for back up. Officers later learned two children were still in the home, and Evans was trying to break into the room they barricaded themselves in.

The children were able to run out of the house, and a short time later, the suspect opened fire again. Police said multiple homes in the surrounding area were struck by his gunfire. Multiple police cars were also hit.

A sniper from the SWAT team fired one shot in return fire and injured Evans. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said he is still at a hospital in custody and under guard.

Evans has been charged with 13 felonies. Here’s a breakdown of those charges:

  • Three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder
  • One count of Firearm Possession by a Prohibited Person
  • Two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Six counts of Felony Firearm Second or Subsequent Offense
  • One count of Domestic Violence

“Law enforcement rushed into imminent danger, putting their own lives on the line, to save the lives of the victim and her children,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “I commend the quick thinking of law enforcement in bringing this extremely dangerous situation to an end. My office’s top priority is public safety, and we will prosecute individuals who threaten the safety of our community and the lives of others, including children and law enforcement officers, to the fullest extent of the law.”
