DETROIT – Over the weekend, a part of Eastern Market was covered in crime tape following the Lions game when a fight resulted in the shooting death of two men.
When, where and what happened
Detroit police confirmed the shooting happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Shed 6 at the market.
Police said two men put their hands up to fight when one of them pulled out a gun and started firing shots. Two people were struck by gunfire.
Officers were in the area for traffic control and heard gunshots, so they quickly went to the scene.
The result of the shooting
A Detroit man in his 40s was killed. A Detroit man in his 20s was injured.
The suspected shooter, an Oak Park man, was arrested. Two guns were recovered by police.
The Detroit man in his 20s died on Monday from his injuries.
In response
A spokesperson from the Eastern Market said it’s working with law enforcement and city officials to enhance public safety measures, including increasing foot patrols in the area.
Mourning the loss
Family and friends identified the first victim killed as Rayshawn Bryant.
A vigil was held for the first victim killed at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16 outside of Shed 6 to honor and celebrate Bryant’s life.
