DETROIT – Detroit’s Shinola Hotel was awarded a Michelin Key from the Michelin Guide, marking the first property in Detroit to receive the recognition.

A Michelin Key is a rating system that recognizes the world’s most exceptional hotels—similar to the Michelin Star rating for restaurants, as those recognize the best culinary experiences.

The Micheline Guide called it a “stylish, youth-oriented boutique hotel that plays up its historical heritage.”

The guide complimented the use of the building’s 16,000 square feet, offering dining, entertainment and retail space alongside the hotel.

The Michelin Guide said the hotel, along with the businesses, put its corner of Detroit back on the map in one fell swoop.

The hotel opened its doors in 2019, with 129 rooms that marry two restored buildings.
