On this day, the goal is to further emphasize the importance of teaching respect and raising awareness about domestic violence.

According to Futures Without Violence, 1 in 4 U.S. women have experienced violence by a partner at some point in her life. Additionally, 1 in 4 teens are harassed or abused through technology.

National Respect Day has its focus on teaching young people about respect in relationships so that domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault come to an end.

How can I support National Respect Day?

Futures Without Violence has many programs to get involved with preventing violence.

Teens can become a “that’s not cool ambassador” and help educate others about digital dating abuse.

Coaches can become part of the “coaching boys into men” program to middle and high school athletes about the importance of respect and non-violence.

Parents can talk to their children about sexual assault and harassment. Although these conversations may be difficult to have, they are important topics of discussion.

What do I do if I am a victim of domestic violence?

If you are in immediate danger, call 911 to get help.
