Wrong-way driver causes deadly crash on M-14

3 people dead in crash

M-14 – Three people died Wednesday morning after police say a wrong-way driver crashed into a car on the entrance ramp onto eastbound M-14.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m. on Sept. 18 on eastbound M-14 at Gotfredson Road, located near the Washtenaw County and Wayne County border.

Michigan State Police said a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 31-year-old man from Battle Creek, was driving the wrong way on M-14 and then exited onto the eastbound entrance ramp from Gotfredson Road when he hit a Tesla, driven by a 53-year-old man from Munith, head-on.

The crash killed the 31-year-old Battle Creek man, his passenger—a 27-year-old Battle Creek woman—and the driver of the Tesla.

The crash caused the Tesla to catch fire, which a fire department was able to put out.

Police said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
