Intoxicated man shoots neighbor over noise dispute in Southgate, police say

Victim shot several times, suspect arrested

SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Police said a man is injured after being shot at by his intoxicated neighbor over a noise dispute Wednesday evening.

The situation unfolded on Kerr Street between Barberry Street and Howard Street just after 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 18.

The suspect, a man in his 60s, approached the victim’s home and allegedly shot at the victim, who was inside his house, after a noise dispute. Police said the victim, a man in his mid-20s, was shot several times.

According to police, the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the shooting.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is stable.

After the shooting, the suspect ran back to his house across the street and barricaded himself inside. Police believe that, while the suspect was barricaded inside, he killed his dog.

Police said after a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered to authorities. The suspect was arrested, and police believe he acted alone in the incident.
