Oooohhhh, Devereux

DETROIT – Hold on to your Vernors -- streaming giant Netflix has gotten ahold of the rights to “Detroiters.”

According to What’s On Netflix, the cult classic and probably the most niche Metro Detroit piece of media that received a wide release will have an even larger audience when the two seasons hit Netflix on Oct. 15.

If you’re a fan of “I Think You Should Leave” and you haven’t watched “Detroiters,” your media consumption habits are bad and that needs to be rectified.

The show was created by Michigan natives Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson, Zach Kanin and Jason Sudeikis. It follows two best friends who work for a small advertising agency in Detroit and make commercials for local businesses.

The show featured many known Detroit and Michigan natives in small roles, including Mort Crim, Mitch Albom, Jim Harbaugh, Rick Mahorn, Kevin Nash, Keegan-Michael Key, Tim Meadows, Shawntay Dalon, Marc Evan Jackson, Chris Powell, Trick Trick, Danny Brown, Larry Joe Campbell, and -- maybe most importantly -- Joumana Kayrouz.

The show was canceled after its second season in 2018.

Robinson, a native of Clarkston, toured with Second City Detroit before joining Second City Chicago. He worked on Saturday Night Live from 2012-16, which is where he met Kanin. Alongside Detroit native Sam Richardson, they made “Detroiters,” a sitcom shot entirely in Metro Detroit. They hired more than 200 people from Detroit to work on the show. It aired for only two seasons because none of you appreciated it enough and decided not to watch it, so you better take the opportunity to watch it now.

I’m still a little salty about the cancelation.

The two have been staples of Detroit Lions games and were even part of the announcement of the 2024 schedule.

After news of the streamer picking up the sitcom, social media erupted in rumors of Netflix producing a third season, but those rumors remain rumors. Rumors about a third season of “Detroiters” have been circulating for years, so take it with a grain of salt.

After “Detroiters” was canceled, Kanin and Robinson partnered again for the popular sketch comedy series, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson.” Many of the sketches were written (and rejected) when the duo worked at SNL. The series features cringe comedy, surreal humor and a good steering wheel that doesn’t fly off while you’re driving.

It has continually gotten weirder every season and has won three Emmys. A live show toured the country earlier this year. The Detroit show sold out almost immediately after it was announced.

Robinson and Kanin recently had a new series, “The Chair Company,” picked up by HBO.
