DETROIT – A foodie’s paradise is nestled under one of the sheds at Eastern Market.
The Detroit Foodie Fair and Detroit Vegan annual events are about trying a little something of what one likes and what one has never had before.
On Sunday, Mercantile Fairs hosted the events under Shed 5.
“We got the Thor Sandwich,” Michael Farrow said. “So, that was what we had before, so pretty good. So, (Hero or Villain) is a good sandwich shop.”
There’s one-of-kind condiments, artisan baked goods and food trucks. Recent years show foodies are venturing into the plant-based side of the event.
“It’s really taken off, and we have more vendors this year than we’ve had in the previous years,” said Danielle Golinsaki of Mercantile Fairs.
Vegan food chefs at The Original Meat and Timah’s Vegan Kitchen say all of their plant-based meats are made from scratch.
“I don’t really think we’re represented well enough,” said Timah, who goes by her first name. “You go inside the stores, there’s really nothing inside of the aisle. I think doing something like this kind of puts us out in the front and lets people know, ‘Yes, we are here.’”
