DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers marketing team is in overdrive trying to make this week as exciting as possible for fans, as Major League Baseball tickets are going rapidly.
The Tigers are returning to Comerica Park this week for a three-game home stand against the Tampa Bay Rays.
They’ll then finish the regular season against the Chicago White Sox, who happen to be the worst team in the majors. Fans are excited about this playoff push.
Fans have been buying tickets all day, and many fans are probably knocking on wood, hoping the team makes it to the playoffs. If they do, this city will be electrified as it has been in a postseason drought for a decade.
“You got to get tickets early because the place is crazy, and I’m happy I got lower deck seats, so I’m excited,” said Tigers fan Paul Padyiasek.
For the first time since early 2010, the Tigers have a chance to make the playoffs, and fans couldn’t be happier.
“It’s pretty crazy,” said Tigers fan Drew Decker. “It feels like it was just yesterday, but 10 years ago was the last time we made the playoffs.”
“We’re hoping for the best,” said Tigers fan Dave Charboneau.
“I said last summer that they were going to win this year,” said Tigers fan Terry Charboneau.
The Tigers officially jumped into a playoff spot Sunday for the first time since the start of the season.
They’re tied with the Kansas City Royals for the second wild card spot and one game ahead of the Minnesota Twins.
But keep your fingers crossed, as the Tigers aren’t there yet. They have to hold on to the American League Wild Card spot to make it.
“The schedule that have right now, I think with the way they’re pitching right now, I think they’re going to win five out of six games,” Padyiasek said.
And with six games to go in the regular season, you might want to get your tickets now.
“They’re flying off the shelves by the moment, but we do have tickets available,” said President and CEO Ryan Gustafson of Ilitch Sports and Entertainment. “They are selling fast, and you can certainly tell that our fans are very much excited to pack the park and create an awesome home-field advantage for the field this week.”
Randy Henry knows that firsthand after buying his ticket on Monday (Sept. 23).
“The lady said nothing close, nothing in the infield,” said Henry. “Everything that we got was in the outfield. So that’s the only kind of tickets they have left.”
Many are wondering if this is the time the Tigers go all the way, just like they did in 1984.
“In 1984, we were at game five,” Dave said. “This is exciting. It’s going to be insane. This is exciting?”
