DETROIT – One week after he was shot and killed, loved ones gathered to honor the life of Rayshawn Palmer and demand answers.
Palmer was one of the two people shot and killed on Sept. 13 while tailgating at Eastern Market. Witnesses said he was trying to break up a fight between two men at the time. Palmer was not the intended target.
The shooter will not face charges, as Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said he acted in self-defense.
As Palmer’s family and friends celebrated his life, they shared a message for the shooter.
“My uncle was great,” said one family member. “No ill intentions, no drama—he was magnificent. You can’t even describe.”
“It’s not just about my brother passing, this is about other people, other families that have had this tragedy,” said one family member.
Palmer’s funeral is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27.
