How Detroit Tigers playoff push could bring big bucks for businesses

Tigers host final 6 games at Comerica Park

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions aren’t the only hot ticket in town, as their neighbors, the Detroit Tigers, are on the brink of a playoff spot. If the Tigers make it to the playoffs, it will bring more money into the city.

The Tigers are in one of three American League Wild Card spots, and with six games remaining at Comerica Park, they control their own destiny.

“I’m excited for it,” said Brass Rail bartender Cierra Godsey. I don’t want to think about it too much. Like I said, we don’t talk about it, and we’re almost there.”

The anticipation is building from everyone surrounding the Tigers, who are potentially advancing to the playoffs if they can hold on to that wild card spot, including the many businesses that are planning for that at this very moment.

“We’re excited for it,” said Buddy’s Pizza General Manager Mark Kuberacki. “We’re already sitting down and planning for it now. We’re excited because it’s been so long since they’ve had this opportunity.”

The Buddy’s Pizza is just a block from Comerica Park, giving Local 4 an idea of what preparation entails.

“We’re looking at our staff levels now,” Kuberacki said. “We’re looking at food, how much flour we’re going to need for our dough and famous pizzas. And then, for any of our drinkers, ice cold beer; we’ll never run out.”

Over at Brass Rail, Godsey says the number of people attending the popular Lions games in the city will probably be around the same.

“If they do make it to the playoffs, I can’t even imagine just how much busier it’s going to be,” Godsey said.

If any bar will be impacted the most, perhaps it’s the Tin Roof, which is literally steps from Commercial Park, where fans will definitely flock before, during, and after the game.

“I think it’s awesome,” said Tin Roof Assistant General Manager Desiree Watt. “It’s going to bring a lot of excitement down to Detroit and the community. It’s going to fill out our building for sure. It’ll have everyone super excited for what’s going on. A lot of Tigers fans, we’ll have Lions fans. So it’ll be just a bunch of excitement going on in this building.”
