Video: Ann Arbor police, firefighters rescue pets from burning home

3 pets rescued from home on Sept. 18

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Three pets were rescued from a burning home on Wednesday.

Ann Arbor police and fire departments responded to a garage fire at around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 18.

When officers entered the house, they searched for anyone living there. Body cam footage shows the officers entering the smoke-filled home, and they were later seen rescuing a dog and a cat. Firefighters also rescued a second cat.

Police said no people were inside the home at the time of the fire.

According to officials, the fire appeared to be from a lithium-ion battery that was charging for an electric lawn mower.

“We strongly recommend not charging batteries when not at home and take the batteries off the charger once full,” wrote the Ann Arbor Fire Department on Facebook. “Also, do not charge batteries in an exit path.”

No one, including the pets, was injured.
