TAYLOR, Mich. – The doctor’s office that was raided Tuesday in Taylor because of the Oakland County man’s alleged link to drugs had a full bedroom inside, and police want to know why.
Doctor arrested
A 78-year-old man from Bloomfield Hills was taken into custody late Tuesday morning during a raid at his clinic on Telegraph Road in Taylor.
“I’m shocked,” the doctor said as he was escorted to a police car. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Taylor police believe the doctor is one of the worst offenders of pill trafficking in Michigan. He’s accused of falsifying records, writing fake prescriptions, and flooding the streets with opioids and painkillers.
The doctor’s 21,000-square-foot mansion in Bloomfield Hills was raided on Tuesday, as well. Officials performed these searches after an investigation that spanned four years.
Police said people from across Michigan and Ohio went to the doctor for narcotics.
“Not only here in the city of Taylor, but spanning the state of Michigan, even surrounding states, as well,” Taylor police Detective Jeff Adamisin said. “It’s just flooding the area of Metro Detroit, specifically, with controlled substances, with pills that are leading to pill diversions, pills being sold on the street, and then that’s causing overdoses and deaths.”
Authorities have identified 16 bank accounts linked to the doctor. Those accounts contain millions of dollars, they said.
Bedroom in clinic
Police body cam footage shows that there’s a full bedroom inside the clinic.
Taylor police Chief John Blair said there have been allegations of sexual misconduct against the doctor in the past.
“We do have an allegation in the past about some possible sexual misconduct from the doctor,” Blair said. “A complaint has been made in the past. There was just a claim about some sexual inappropriate behavior between the doctor and one of the patients.”
When we asked Blair why there’s a bedroom in the clinic, he said that’s a great question.
“We don’t know,” Blair said. “He isn’t providing any answers on that, so your guess is as good as ours.”
There’s a television mounted high on the wall across from the bed. There’s a plant and some boxes in one corner, and chairs in two others, both facing the bed.
There are cameras placed above the bed and pointed at an angle that would show it, the chief said.
“We’re not sure what’s happening with that,” Blair said. “We don’t want to speculate. Our officers did speak with him last night. He did make a number of admissions to the (drug) allegations. But in regards to the sexual misconduct, that was not discussed.”
