MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – One person is dead and three people, including the alleged drunk driver, were injured after a head-on crash in Macomb County on Saturday.
Police said it happened on Sept. 21 just before 10:30 p.m. when the suspect was seen by witnesses driving southbound on North Avenue drifting into the northbound lane. Two cars that were traveling northbound were able to swerve to avoid crashing into the suspect, but the suspect veered into the northbound lane—crashing into a car head-on at the intersection of North Avenue and Rochelle Drive.

The suspect, who was the only person in his car at the time of the crash, was critically injured.
Three people were in the car the suspect crashed into—the driver was seriously injured, the front-seat passenger received minor injuries and the back-seat passenger died from his injuries after being transported to a hospital.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash as deputies smelled alcohol on the suspect.
The 36-year-old suspect is facing the following charges:
- Operating while intoxicated causing death
- Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury
The sheriff’s office said on Wednesday the suspect remains hospitalized in serious condition.
