Video: Suspect runs across busy highway, narrowly misses semi to avoid arrest in Dearborn

Suspect was eventually arrested

DEARBORN, Mich. – Bodycam video shows a man attempting to avoid being arrested by running across a busy highway in Dearborn on Tuesday.

Dearborn police pulled over the suspect for a traffic violation on I-94 on Sept. 24. After stopping the truck, they learned the driver didn’t have a valid license, had warrants out for his arrest and was currently on parole.

While officers were interviewing the driver, he ran away from them. The bodycam footage shows the driver narrowly missing a semi-truck, with his hat blowing off his head as the semi drives past him while he runs across the highway. An officer was chasing after him across I-94.

The man was eventually arrested with the help of law enforcement’s drone to find him hiding in an overgrown area. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm, resisting an officer and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police said they found a handgun and body armor in the driver’s truck.

“This incident could have ended in tragedy,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin. “Behavior like this will not be tolerated in the City of Dearborn; we will continue to pursue and arrest dangerous suspects and charge them with the appropriate crimes.”
