DETROIT – The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is working to find alternatives to help reduce flooding in Southeast Michigan.

The multi-year study aims to identify a plan to reduce flooding in Southeast Michigan and present it for federal or non-federal funding consideration.

A signing ceremony was held on Sept. 30 to formalize the partnership officially.

During the ceremony, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the partnership is essential because it helps engage with the community in the southeast counties and helps understand the impact of flooding locally.

The study will take input from communities and partners, assess the feedback, find alternatives or solutions to the issues and present the recommendations to elected officials to decide on funding the construction.
