Waterford Township man dies after motorcycle crash

Man dies from injuries in crash on Sept. 28

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Waterford Township man died Saturday after a motorcycle crash in Commerce Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said Lucas Keith Horsch, 21, was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Cooley Lake Road near Switzerland Street just after midnight on Sept. 28.

When the motorcycle crossed the center line, it began to slide and left the roadway. Horsch fell out of the motorcycle, which slid into the driveway of a private home. He was taken to a local hospital but died from his injuries Saturday evening.

On Sunday, an autopsy revealed Horsch was intoxicated at the time of the crash, with a blood-alcohol level of .12 percent. Under Michigan law, a driver is considered to be intoxicated at .08 percent.

The sheriff’s office said Horsch did not have a motorcycle endorsement, which leads investigators to believe a lack of experience might have been a factor in the crash.
