DETROIT – Henry Ford Health announced on Tuesday morning that it finalized its joint venture with Ascension Michigan.
The healthcare company announced the partnership at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, formally called Ascension St. John Hospital.
As a result of the joint venture, Henry Ford announced it now has 55,000 employees at more than 550 sites across Michigan with 12 acute care hospitals, three behavioral health facilities, an orthopedics and sports medicine facility and multiple cancer care locations.
Henry Ford Health is reaching out to patients this week to let them know they can still see their existing doctors, make appointments and visit facilities they always have.
Henry Ford Health said it will continue to have the former Ascension Michigan hospitals provide faith-based care while maintaining the Catholic identity. For example, Ascension Genesys in Grand Blanc will be rebranded to Henry Ford Genesys.
“Today, we embark on a new chapter in our journey,” said Ascension Senior Vice President Carol Schmidt, who will support the first phase of transition and integration as Senior Integration Advisor, Henry Ford Health. “This joint venture will not only enhance our capabilities, but also set the stage for sustainable growth and success. By combining our strengths, we are better equipped to innovate and respond to the evolving needs of those we are privileged to serve.”
The integration will take about two years.
