STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Two 17-year-olds in a Mustang were badly injured and two adults in a pickup truck were also hurt in a Macomb County crash.

The crash happened at 6:36 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at 18 Mile and Pickett Ridge roads in Sterling Heights.

Officials said the teenagers were in an orange Mustang as it headed west on 18 Mile Road. The driver lost control, causing the Mustang to leave its lane and be struck by an eastbound silver RAM pickup.

The collision caused a fire, and several witnesses helped the occupants get out of the burning cars, police said.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they gave medical aid to the 17-year-olds, who appeared to have serious injuries.

The two people from the pickup truck were 25-year-old residents of Washington Township. They suffered minor injuries, police said.

All four were taken to a nearby hospital. The teenagers are in critical condition, and the adults have non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials believe weather was a factor in the crash. Alcohol and drug use are not suspected.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Safety Bureau at 586-446-2920 and reference case No. 24-76374.
