JD Vance targets Oakland County in campaign push

Republicans see border, and the economy as winning issues for them

Following Tuesday night’s vice-presidential debate, Senator JD Vance campaigned Wednesday afternoon in Metro Detroit.

He held a rally at the aerospace industry supplier, Visioneering, in Auburn Hills.

Vance hit Vice President Kamala Harris on several issues, from immigration to the economy.

“Kamala has been in power. She caused the problems. We’re not going to entrust her to solve the very problems that she created,” Vance said.

Republicans see the border and the economy as winning issues for them.

“Yes, Kamala Harris is at fault for the Inflation Explosion Act,” Vance said, misnaming the Inflation Reduction Act.

Trump 47 captain Sandra Carolan said she’s concerned about the cost of living.

“I am a senior on a fixed income, and I’m finding it very difficult,” she said.

Attendee Mark Tabish identified the economy as a top issue.

“The main one is the economy and understanding what each of the different candidates’ proposals is going to do for the economy,” he said.

In response to Vance’s visit, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist compared the Democratic and Republican presidential tickets.

“I’m an engineer, a problem solver. I care about people who actually want to fix a problem than just want to complain about it,” he said.

After Vance’s remarks, he took questions from the local media.

I asked Vance why he refused to answer during the debate about who won the 2020 presidential election.

“Here’s the simple reason. The media is obsessed with talking about the election of four years ago. I’m focused on the election of 33 days,” he responded.

Some Michigan election officials, including Secretary of State of Joceyln Benson, are preparing for the possibility that some may try to undermine the results of the 2024 presidential election.
