Novi police bring back pink car for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

If you see a pink police car in Novi this month—no, that does not belong to Police Barbie. It’s actually a police vehicle to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The bright pink police car is covered with signatures of people hoping to make a difference.

For the past eight years, the Novi Police Department has been turning heads with a bright pink patrol car to support breast cancer survivors and their families.

“For a $5 donation, we asked people to sign a message of hope or sign a loved one’s name who’s a survivor on the car,” said Novi Police Commander Jason Meier.

Since 2016, the police department’s pink car initiative has raised nearly $75,000 for the Assarian Cancer Center at Ascension Providence in Novi. Meier said last year alone, they brought in a whopping $12,000 this year. They hope to raise even more.

“This year, we set our goal high. We’re trying for $15,000,” said Meier.

The money goes to the Believe in Miracles fund, which directly supports families facing the challenges of a loved one battling cancer.

“What this money does is it allows them to not worry about the bills but take care of their loved one,” said Meier.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you can expect to see this eye-catching pink car at various community events. Last weekend, it was at the Suburban Collection Showplace at a shopping show.

“At the women’s show, we had the car front and center there, and so were were collecting donations and having people sign it there,” said Meier.

Meier said this vehicle is more than just a pink car; it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and power of a community coming together to help their neighbors who are battling breast cancer.

“This community really supports not only the police department, but they support each other and the businesses here support the community. It’s fantastic,” said Meier.

Another event is happening this weekend to get people to come and donate to this cause. A full list of events can be seen in the flyer below:
