WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two men are facing multiple charges for an attempted armed robbery and carjacking in Waterford Township.

Police said that on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, they were called to a Citgo gas station on Walton Boulevard for reports of a carjacking by two men. The men arrived at the gas station in a black Ford Mustang, later discovered to be a stolen vehicle, and approached a woman who was filling her vehicle with gas.

One of the men in the Mustang pointed a handgun at the woman and demanded the keys to her vehicle. Someone else at the gas station who was also filling their vehicle helped the woman.

Both men got back into the Mustang and left the scene, police said.

Later that afternoon, an off-duty Waterford Township police officer spotted the Mustang in a parking lot at Meijer on Highland Road in Waterford Township. The officer let dispatch know and uniformed officers were sent to Meijer.

Police stopped the vehicle and took both men into custody for the attempted carjacking at the Citgo. Police recovered two firearms, extra magazines, and ammunition from the vehicle.

Anthony Deshaun Jones, Jr., from Lansing, was charged with carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, and felony firearm.

Herbert Lee Artis, Jr. from Grand Blanc, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, firearm possession by a prohibited person, felony firearm, and ammunition possession by a prohibited person.

Both men were arraigned before Judge Kuhn in the 51st District Court and given a bond of $100,000 cash/surety, no 10%. They are expected back in court at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, 2024. They are being held in jail.
