SALINE, Mich. – Although their record no longer reflects that, the Saline High School football team still feels undefeated.
“I know yesterday at practice they were more pumped up than ever,” said Tammi Carr, whose son is a player on the team.
Marrisa Johnson, a player’s parent, said the team is focused on the games ahead.
“This team works hard,” said Johnson. “They’re dedicated, and I think they are going to continue to put their head down and prove a point.”
After discovering the issue, the school said it self-reported to the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
At Thursday night’s special school board meeting, the board supported a motion to direct the superintendent to seek information on how to appeal the decision.
According to the board’s president, the MHSAA sent the board a document on Friday that will help guide its next steps if it decides to pursue an appeal.
Players and parents support filing an appeal.
“The school acted very prematurely,” Johnson said. “A full and complete investigation, from my understanding, was not conducted.”
The team is facing Bedford Friday night, the first game since the forfeiture was announced.
It is also their homecoming.
“As parents, we are going to be out there to support them in an extra special way when they come out on the field tonight,” Carr said. “They know that we are behind them.”
