PORTAGE, Mich. – A Michigan woman won $2 million with a scratch-off lottery ticket.
The 33-year-old woman bought a Colossal Cashword ticket at Hoffman’s Corner Store on South Westnedge Avenue in Portage.
“Colossal Cashword has been my favorite game since it came out,” she said. “I scratched the barcode right when I bought the ticket and gave it to the clerk to scan it. He handed it back with a slip that said to file a claim at the lottery office and said, ‘You must have won big. You have to go to the lottery office.’”
She said she went home and scratched the full ticket. When she realized she had uncovered 10 words, it dawned on her that the ticket was worth $2 million.
“I started screaming,” she said. “Winning feels good and came at the perfect time.”
She visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim her prize and chose to remain anonymous.
The woman picked a one-time lump sum of $1.3 million over annual payments.
She said she plans to pay bills and save the rest of the money for her children.
