MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A Monroe County resident shot a suspected home invader with a crossbow early Tuesday morning in Frenchtown Township.

Just after midnight on Oct. 8, two men allegedly broke into a home near the 4500 block of Huron Street. Later, one of the suspects was shot by one of the residents in the home with a crossbow. Both suspects then ran out of the house.

When deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded, they found the two suspects nearby. One suspect, a 32-year-old Newport man, was found with a wound from a crossbow bolt. He was sent to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police said he remains in custody while receiving medical care.

The second suspect, a 41-year-old Newport man, was also found nearby and taken into custody. He was placed at the Monroe County Jail.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough does not believe this was a random act of violence. According to the sheriff’s office, the alleged home invasion stemmed from a prior altercation—the residents and the suspects know each other.
