Hurricane Milton is getting closer to Florida on Wednesday morning.
The now Category 4 hurricane is expected to make landfall late Wednesday, but experts said it may weaken once it makes landfall.

Milton was centered early Wednesday about 360 miles (580 kilometers) southwest of Tampa with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph (260 kmh), the National Hurricane Center reported.

The Gulf Coast is considered very vulnerable to storm surges, perhaps as high as 8-12 feet in the Tampa area. That’s nearly double what Floridians saw during Helene, hurricane center spokeswoman Maria Torres told the Associated Press.
Widespread flooding is also a possibility.
