Car break-in leaves retired Detroit teacher with mobility issues with little options

DETROIT – A retired teacher with mobility issues in Detroit is grappling with the aftermath of a break-in -- his car window was shattered and his steering wheel was taken.

Even worse, he might not make it to his own mother’s funeral because of it.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.

The 2018 Chevy Malibu was more than a vehicle, it was a lifeline for Ed Norwood. He just bought it a month ago and would drive from Detroit’s west side to visit his Mom at her nursing home in Livonia.

She died unexpectedly just a few days ago.

“I just want to be able to get to her funeral,” Norwood said.

Despite everything, Norwood still has compassion for the person responsible.

“If he had asked for $100, I would’ve gave it to him," Norwood said. “I feel sorry for him, cause whoever did this is in pain too.”

Anyone willing to help can reach out to Ed Norwood here.
