Florida residents take refuge in Michigan after Hurricane Milton

family plans to return home to Florida on Sunday

CANTON, Mich. – A Westland native living in Florida rode out Hurricane Milton at his grandmother’s home in Canton.

Anthony Bojanowski lives in Central Florida with his wife and three young children.

They decided to evacuate on Monday (Oct. 7), especially after having prior experiences with hurricanes.

“We rode out Hurricane Ian where we live in Florida, and that was a category 2 that hit us, and it did a lot of damage to the area surrounding us,” Bojanowski said. “So we picked up, and we didn’t take the gamble this time.”

Bojanowski said they left, not knowing what would happen or when they’d be back.

“We ultimately settled on let’s just pack for five days because we can wash clothes up here, but just the feeling of ok, what do I need to grab,” he said.

Bojanowski was able to keep a virtual eye on his house during the storm.

“I had the doorbell camera that I was able to continuously monitor,” said Bojanowski.

Bojanowski’s neighbors checked on the house Thursday and said there was no damage inside or out.

The family plans to return home to Florida on Sunday.
