ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A man was struck and killed by a train in Royal Oak while trying to hurry across the tracks on foot, according to police.

The 44-year-old Pontiac man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at around 9:17 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, in the area of 6th Street and Center Street in Royal Oak.

Police said the man “disregarded the crossing signals and was attempting to hurry across the tracks as the train approached” when he was struck. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The crash is under investigation by Royal Oak police with CN Railroad Police.
