OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit man officials said killed two men in a Pontiac apartment because he was angry he lost $80 in a dice game has been charged with murder, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Davonte Demetri Franklin, 32, is accused of killing Sidney Ward III, 20, of Highland Park, and Tyrone Davis Glenn Jr., 24, of Pontiac. The deadly shooting occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, in an apartment in the 100 block of North Sanford Street near Fiddis Avenue in Pontiac.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. Glenn was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

Officials said Franklin used a potato in an unsuccessful attempt to silence the gunshots. Witnesses told investigators that they heard the shots. Franklin left the scene of the shooting and was traveling on South Boulevard in an Uber.

During their investigation, detectives found two semi-automatic handguns.

Franklin was arrested in the area of 8 Mile Road and Evergreen Road in Southfield 12 hours after the murders, officials said. He had two grocery bags and a case of beer with him when he was arrested.

Franklin is being held without bond in the Oakland County Jail. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is expected back in court on Oct. 22.
