MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 56-year-old man was arrested Saturday, Oct. 12, after a lengthy chase across Monroe County.
According to authorities, it started at about 7:30 p.m. as Michigan State Police were investigating a shoplifting complaint out of Frenchtown Township. Troopers located the suspect vehicle, which sped off from the area.

Shortly after, a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy saw the vehicle in Monroe Township and identified the driver as someone wanted on multiple felony warrants. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver drove off again, leading to a pursuit.
The chase reportedly lasted 45 minutes and went through Monroe, LaSalle and Ida townships before leading back to Monroe Township.
During the chase, deputies had reportedly deployed stop sticks and popped all four of the vehicle’s tires. The suspect eventually stopped on Laurel Drive in the Oakridge Estates neighborhood, where he was taken into custody.
The driver, a 56-year-old man from Monroe, was arrested and turned over to Michigan State Police. Charges are being sought for fleeing and eluding.
