DETROIT – Two Michigan State Police troopers were injured early Sunday morning after their patrol car was struck by a pickup truck on I-96.

On Oct. 13 at around 2:30 a.m., troopers were initially investigating a traffic crash on westbound I-96 near Joy Road. Police said the driver of the F-150, a 20-year-old from Novi, didn’t move over and hit the patrol car.

The two troopers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unclear.

According to police, the 20-year-old was impaired. The driver arrested and lodged pending prosecutor review.

“Once again, we see someone who decided to get behind the wheel while impaired,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “This crash could have been a lot worse. We are reminding drivers to not get behind the wheel while impaired. There are too many other options available.”
