What we know: Off-duty police officer killed after shooting 2 other officers in Detroit’s east side

The Detroit police community is mourning after officers shot and killed one of their own—who opened fire on officers during a mental health crisis.

The situation unfolded Monday, Oct. 14, just before 2:30 p.m. in the area of E Davison and St. Aubin near the Highland Park water tower.

Detroit voters can cast their ballots before the Nov. 5 general election.

Walgreens to close 1,200 US stores in an attempt to steady operations at home

Walgreens plans to close about 1,200 locations over the next three years as the drugstore chain seeks to turnaround its struggling U.S. business.

The company said Tuesday that about 500 store closures will come in the current fiscal year and should immediately support adjusted earnings and free cash flow. Walgreens didn’t say where the store closings would take place.

Weather: Teeth-chattering temperatures through midweek in Metro Detroit

Waking up to either side of 40 this morning and feeling a little cooler with the wind chill. Don’t leave the house without a thicker coat. If you will be in the Thumb region today, you will also need to grab an umbrella.

Noticeably cooler this morning compared to yesterday. Our highs this afternoon will be struggling to reach 50. In fact, as winds gust around 20 mph out of the north this afternoon, the feels like temperatures will likely not get out of the 40s. Most areas remain dry across the Metro. However, the eastern portion of the Thumb will continue to have off and on lake effect rain showers throughout the day.
