Wrong-way head-on collision in Monroe County kills teen, infant

A head-on collision in Monroe County killed a 19-year-old and an infant girl on Oct. 15, 2024. (WDIV)

RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 19-year-old woman and an infant were killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision.

The crash happened Oct. 15 on Custer Road in Raisinville Township at about 8:30 a.m. According to authorities, a 19-year-old from Jackson -- identified as Journee E. Padgett -- was driving eastbound on the road when she crossed the centerline and struck a semi truck with two trailers that was driving westbound.

The 58-year-old driver of the semi truck -- identified as Douglas Millyard from Adrian -- was not injured in the crash.

While both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and the infant was properly secured in a rear-facing car seat, Padgett was declared dead at the scene and the infant was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
