DETROIT – Vice President Kamala Harris made multiple campaign stops in Detroit Tuesday, including taping a live town hall with Charlamagne Tha God of The Breakfast Club.
The radio interview was a private event, but supporters rallied at Cred Café in Detroit for a watch party.
Harris appeared at the watch party, where she addressed her supporters.
“(Detroit) is a town of people that have grit, who have determination and who have optimism and ambition,” said Harris.
A focus of the radio interview was zeroing in on the Black vote, specifically Black men.
“It’s very encouraging to hear Vice President Harris talk directly to the issues that are pressing to our community,” said Quantez Pressley, who attended the watch party.
During the radio interview, Harris discussed several topics, including expanding the child tax credit, legalizing marijuana, and providing financial incentives for first-time homeowners and entrepreneurs.
Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell, a Trump supporter, criticized Harris' visit.
“She keeps pandering with athletes and podcasters and celebrities,” Sewell said. “She thinks that Black people are political infants, but we’re not. Our Black men are being raised up as political scientists right in our community so we can start a spiritual revival.”
