Monroe County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam using detective‘s name

Scammer will contact victim and identify themselves as ‘Detective Robert Blair’

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is warning the community of a phone scam currently circulating in the area.

Goodnough says the scammer will contact the would-be victim and identify themselves as “Detective Robert Blair.”

Officials also say the scammer then asks the would-be victim to contact the phone number “734-264-7678, EXT: 2.”

What information the scammer will collect or attempt to solicit is unknown if you call them back.

If you do call back, an automated message will say, “Thank you for calling the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office,” and direct you to a phone tree.

If you select No. 1, the call will be directed to a live person who sounds like they are calling from somewhere other than overseas.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office employs a detective, Robert Blair. Detective Blair does not call from the scam number listed above.
